Revolutionary security - A lock compatible with all future devices

Initial situation: day-to-day work is increasingly defined by mobility

Mobile devices are defining day-to-day work more than ever before. At the same time, many employees are also demanding more and more mobility. High-end company notebooks are continuously used during business trips and off-site appointments. Due to new forms of office organisation (for example without permanent offices and workstations), the need to secure equipment including monitors and projectors is growing within companies as well.

Stricter data protection rules (such as the GDPR) also play a role. They considerably escalate the negative consequences of notebook loss or theft – from extensive reporting obligations to a massive loss of image.

DICOTA as a specialist for innovative mobile device solutions has been offering high-end locks for notebooks and other equipment in its product range for years.

What problems are associated with conventional locks?

There has been a fundamental issue with notebook locks for decades: conventional locks for notebooks and other equipment fit the exact device for which they were originally procured – but frequently cannot be used for successor devices because the lock heads are different. As a rule, the service life of a high-end cable lock is considerably longer than that of a notebook, which is replaced on a two or three-year cycle.

The consequence: a new lock or a special adapter frequently has to be purchased along with a new notebook. This can turn into a significant cost factor, especially for larger companies with many employees.

What types of locks are available?

The three most common lock head types are the T-bar (T-lock), nano-lock and wedge-lock. They differ in the type of anchoring and size of the lock socket, which may be 3.2 x 4.5 mm (wedge-lock), 2.5 mm x 6.0 mm (nano-lock) or 3.0 mm x 7.0 mm (T-bar).

What makes the DICOTA solution revolutionary?

The DICOTA lock is equipped with three interchangeable heads for the T-bar, nano-lock and wedge-lock types. Changing the lock head only takes a few seconds. Choosing the respective correct version is facilitated by the clear marking of the connection socket dimensions on the lock head. Thus the lock can be used for any device over the course of many years. Buying the lock is much simpler and easier as well because comparing with the socket on the respective device ahead of time is no longer necessary.

What potential savings can be realised for companies and public authorities?

With the universal locks from DICOTA, companies and organisations can reduce their overall costs in practice to only one-third of the current costs, depending on the scenario. The following sample calculation assumes a company with 500 employees who each need two locks for their devices. Three different locks per employee have to be purchased over a ten-year period due to different sockets. The average price of a lock is assumed at 25 euros in the sample calculation:

Total costs, conventional scenario:

500 x 2 x 3 x 25 = EUR 75,000

Total costs, DICOTA lock solution with exchangeable heads:

500 x 2 x 25 = EUR 25,000

Number combination or key? Your customers can choose.
