Sustainability & Green Procurement
Current situation
& market opportunity
For IT resellers, this means that their major clients will increasingly be asking what evidence of sustainability their suppliers can provide. Those unable to answer this question risk being removed from supplier lists. Those who provide a convincing answer will gain points in the procurement process and strengthen their partnership.
Key figures at a glance
WHAT DICOTA OFFERS AS A SUSTAINABLE PARTNER
RECYCLED MATERIALS – DOCUMENTED AND VERIFIABLE
A growing proportion of the DICOTA portfolio consists of products made from recycled materials – in particular rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate), which is derived from plastic bottles. These products comply with GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification and can be reported in the customer’s sustainability report as a documented contribution to the circular economy.
For resellers, this is a concrete selling point in sales discussions: “The sleeve used by each of your 500 employees is made from recycled material and is GRS-certified. You can report this in your sustainability report.” This is not an abstract ESG promise – it is a measurable, documentable contribution.
CERTIFICATIONS – THE PROOF, NOT THE PROMISE
Sustainability claims without certification are worthless – procurement departments and CSR managers know this only too well. DICOTA relies on recognised, external certifications: GRS (Global Recycled Standard), Bluesign for responsible textile production, and RoHS compliance for low-toxicity manufacturing.
All certificates are available digitally and can be accessed at product level – not as a generic company document, but specific to each individual product. This is crucial for tenders and supplier assessments that require product-specific evidence.
CO₂ DATA FOR SCOPE 3 REPORTING
The CSRD Directive requires companies subject to reporting obligations to record Scope 3 emissions – that is, emissions generated throughout the entire supply chain, not just within their own operations. IT accessories fall into this category: if a company purchases 1,000 laptop cases, this generates emissions – and these must increasingly be accounted for.
DICOTA is working on providing product-specific CO₂ data that retailers can pass on to their customers. For resellers able to offer this service, this creates a clear competitive advantage over suppliers lacking this level of transparency.
ENGAGING WITH THE RIGHT CONTACTS
CSR & SUSTAINABILITY OFFICERS
This role is increasingly becoming a standalone function in medium-sized and large companies. The sustainability officer is responsible for ESG reporting and influences supplier assessment. This is a new point of contact for resellers – not an IT person, but someone with a focus on sustainability.
The conversation doesn’t work with product presentations, but with documentation and evidence. The opening line: "I’d like to show you which certificates and sustainability data we can provide for our DICOTA products – this should be relevant for your next sustainability report."
STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT
Many companies have incorporated ESG criteria into their supplier assessment – as a separate dimension on the scorecard alongside price, quality and delivery capability. This means that a supplier with a poor ESG rating loses points, even if they offer competitive prices. A supplier with excellent documentation gains points – and can therefore afford to offer price discounts.
